Four Polarizing TV and Movie Couples Through the Years

While stories can introduce very exciting relationships, there sure are some that people just love to talk about. The big and small screens have produced many polarizing relationships that remain such to this day and still captivate audiences. Here are four of the most talked about—for better and for worse—TV and movie couples.

The Oddity of Joey and Rachel

Friends had more than one iconic relationship during its 10-season run, but no other stirred debate and disagreement quite like the one between Joey and Rachel. This certainly is one of the most polarizing couples on screen because the Team Ross and Team Joey debates continue years after the show ended.

Everybody is familiar with the legendary relationship between Rachel and Ross, but at one point in the series, Joey provides her comfort. While that relationship ultimately doesn’t go anywhere, it didn’t sit right with many back then and still doesn’t for many now. Meanwhile, others consider it a good addition to the series that carries some complexity with it.

The Dynamic Between Kylo Ren and Rey

While Kylo Ren and Rey started as enemies in The Force Awakens, their relationship evolved during the three movies. It was mainly based on tension and adversity, and many were surprised when the two kissed at the end of The Last Jedi.

Many were shipping Reylo right after The Last Jedi and saw a deep and romantic undercurrent between the two, but those who didn’t like it pointed out that there wasn’t enough on-screen throughout the movies to warrant the development of romantic feelings between the two.

The Conflict Between Wednesday and Tyler

The first season of Wednesday had the main character develop a relationship with Tyler, and it captured the attention of many fans with its complicated twists and turns. However, when it became clear that Tyler was involved in local murders, that made him irredeemable to many fans and unsuitable for Wednesday.

While season two of Wednesday is currently in production, there aren’t many details about it and where the story will go. Still, it has been confirmed that Hunter Doohan will star in the new season.

The Potential of Shuri and Namor

Shuri and Namor may not have been depicted as a romantic pair in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but they still managed to become one of the most polarizing couples people talk about. This is mainly because the interactions between the two led many to believe there was an underlying devotion from Namor towards Shuri, and others strongly disagreed.

Those who don’t like the idea of Namor and Shuri as a couple point out that his antagonistic actions towards her should exclude such possibilities. Meanwhile, those who want to believe otherwise are often quick to point out that love is blind.
